Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Mira Johnson and Jazmyne Gilbert Lead Heights to Victory

Heights won the last time they faced Houston Math Science & Tech and things went their way on Saturday too. The Heights Bulldogs were the clear victor by a 52-30 margin over the Houston Math Science & Tech Tigers. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 44-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading Heights to victory were Jazmyne Gilbert and Mira Johnson. Gilbert shot 4-for-5 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine steals, while Johnson went 8 of 11 on her way to 21 points and six rebounds. That's the most steals Gilbert has posted since back in November of 2024.

Heights was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 2.2 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

Heights' win bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Houston Math Science & Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 14-11.

When Heights and Houston Math Science & Tech next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Heights will try to stop Westside's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Houston Math Science & Tech will take on Lamar and their four-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
