With a playoff win on the line, East Central rose to the challenge on Monday. They beat the North Pike Jaguars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2. Winning may never get old, but the Hornets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Anthony Tanner made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Porter Martin was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
East Central's win bumped their record up to 19-13. As for North Pike, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 20-12.
Looking ahead, East Central will head out on the road to challenge Florence at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. North Pike does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
