Highland (Gilbert, Ariz.) kept up a steady attack all game long to beat
Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.), 38-10, on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Ryan McCord touchdown run in the first quarter, the Hawks were up 17-0 at the half.
Highland grew its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. HHS scored two times in the third, including once on a kick return touchdown by
Chris Brewster.
Noah Miller played well for the Hawks in the victory. He kicked one field goal and five extra points.
Perry's lone touchdown came on an 8-yard pass from
Alec Monte to
Jackson Spilsbury in the fourth quarter.
Coming into the game Highland had allowed 18.3 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Pumas below their season average of 14.5 points scored per game.
With the win the Hawks extended their winning streak to four games. The loss was the fourth in a row for Perry.
Highland (5-2) goes up against Basha in an I Section I game matchup next week, while Perry (2-5) locks horns with Chandler also in an I Section I game.
