Softball Game Preview: Sheyenne Mustangs vs. Shanley Deacons

Sheyenne has gone a perfect 7-0 against Shanley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Deacons at 4:30 p.m. Sheyenne has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sheyenne is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Dakota's top teams: Red River, who was ranked 16th at the time (Sheyenne was ranked 25th). The Mustangs lost 12-0 to the Roughriders on Monday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Shanley came up short against Red River on Thursday and fell 7-4. The Deacons haven't had much luck with the Roughriders recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Shanley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Sheyenne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Everything went Sheyenne's way against Shanley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Sheyenne made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
