On Saturday, McKinley Tech faced Georgetown Day in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The McKinley Tech Trainers blew past the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers 78-58. The Trainers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.
McKinley Tech got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was DaMontae Neclos out in front who posted 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Neclos has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Dunbar, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Georgetown Day saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Clark went 5 for 8 en route to 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for Clark. Julian Lucas also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
The victory was the eighth in a row for McKinley Tech, bringing their record for this year to 13-1. As for Georgetown Day, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
McKinley Tech wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 61-53 loss against Eastern on the 13th. As for Georgetown Day, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-54 defeat against Flint Hill on the 14th.
