Make it six blowout wins for the Wayne Valley Indians this season. They blew past Lakeland Regional 73-31 at home on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for Wayne Valley as they're now sitting on four straight.
Luke Rubino was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 16 points along with three steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Anthony Apicella was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Lakeland Regional's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matt Vanderweele, who scored five points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Zonis, who scored four points.
Lakeland Regional struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wayne Valley racked up 20 assists.
Wayne Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Lakeland Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Wayne Valley will be playing at home against the Cutters at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Jersey (Fair Lawn is ranked 79th, while the Indians are ranked 58th). As for Lakeland Regional, they and the Highlanders will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. West Milford will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
