The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Trinity Catholic (Ocala, Fla.) on Saturday, totaling 18 points as the Celtics upset
Vanguard (Ocala, Fla.) 35-14.
The Knights pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Tyronte Files, and subsequently went into halftime leading 6-0. The Celtics scored the winning points with a touchdown run by
Joe Sandstrom that came in the third quarter.
Files made a difference for Vanguard. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to seven on the year.
Trinity Catholic's standout player in the win was
Camerhon Guyton. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game TC had allowed 22.2 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding VHS well below its season average of 24.8 points scored per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Knights took, 21-0.
The defeat comes as a step back for Vanguard, which notched a 42-3 victory over Lake Weir in its previous outing. With the win Trinity Catholic extended its winning streak to three games.
In a non-conference game next week Trinity Catholic (5-2) takes on Booker, and Vanguard (3-3) will go up against Gainesville in a 6A District 5 game.
