The Valdosta Wildcats won the last time they faced the Westover Patriots, and things went their way on Friday too. Valdosta narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Westover 50-47. Given Valdosta's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Westover is ranked 236th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Westover had strong showings from Sydney Donaldson, who scored 21 points along with 6 rebounds, and Jada Landers, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Landers scored a full 27.7% of Westover's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kaiya Conway was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Valdosta and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for Westover, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valdosta will face off against Westover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westover won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on December 9th.
