AISA AAA Region 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Kingwood Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in AISA AAA Region 1. Earlier in the week, the Lions triumphed over Evangel Christian Academy 40-26.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy moved up to 189 from 280 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Knights climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-7 win over Pike Liberal Arts.
Kingwood Christian's Gavin Sumrall and Montex Haynes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sumrall has thrown for 456 yards this season, while Haynes, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 11 catches for 255 yards. Lee-Scott Academy's Holt Ingalls leads the league in rushing yards with 204.
A big matchup in AISA AAA Region 1 this week will be when Bessemer Academy takes on Macon-East Montgomery Academy. As it stands, the Rebels are in sixth, while Glynn Lott's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Bob Spurgeon's team and the Warriors face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Lions comes in having scored 29 this season, while Lee-Scott Academy has scored 75. Kingwood Christian scored 40 points last week as it bested the Lions.
Tuscaloosa Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Restoration Academy, 47-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Knights.
