Waterford hasn't had much luck against Le Grand recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.
Waterford is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 30th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Delhi.
Meanwhile, Le Grand waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They never let the Coyotes get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Ava Avila made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Le Grand let Crystal Manzo and Aaliyah Ceja run wild. Manzo went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base, while Ceja scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Ceja has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Karly Reyes, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Le Grand hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denair struck out ten times.
Le Grand's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Waterford, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
Waterford suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Le Grand in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
