LAKE ZURICH, Ill. - the Bears had a big 21-point first quarter on Saturday, sealing a 35-6 victory over
Elk Grove (Elk Grove Village, Ill.).
Lake Zurich scored on three rushing touchdowns in the quarter, including one by
Sean Lynch.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, LZ was up 28-0 at the half.
The Bears expanded their lead to 29 points entering the fourth quarter. Lake Zurich scored once in the quarter on a
Sam Walstrom touchdown run.
Elk Grove's only touchdown came on a 5-yard run by
Adam O'Malley in the third quarter.
LZ had given up an average of 8.7 points prior to the contest. The six points that the Grenadiers ended with were well below their average of 24.4 coming into the game.
The loss comes after Elk Grove defeated Prospect 3-0 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for the Bears, who were coming off a 24-17 defeat at the hands of Stevenson in its previous game. The loss ended Elk Grove's two-game winning streak.
