Oakdale is a perfect 10-0 against East Union since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will challenge the Lancers at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, it was close, but Oakdale sidestepped Manteca for a 10-8 victory. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Katee Conde was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Madi Bohannon (Cal Poly) also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Oakdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manteca only posted a batting average of .286.
Meanwhile, East Union waltzed into their match on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Timberwolves get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Mikayla Simpson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caliyah Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jacey Jauregui, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Oakdale and bumps their season record up to 13-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for East Union, their record now sits at 15-12.
Oakdale skirted past East Union 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
