Discovery Canyon is 9-1 against Air Academy since October of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Thunder will be playing in front of their home fans against the Kadets at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Discovery Canyon and three for Air Academy.
Discovery Canyon lost 3-0 to Lewis-Palmer on Thursday.
While Discovery Canyon was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-23.
Meanwhile, Air Academy came up short against Lutheran on Thursday, falling 3-0.
The final score came out to 25-18, 25-15, 25-12.
Defeat or not, Air Academy got some senior leadership from Shelbe Lyons and Jiselle Rodriquez. Lyons had 15 digs and three assists, while Rodriquez had three digs and three aces. Lyons is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played.
Air Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Discovery Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Discovery Canyon has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Air Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
