After both having extra time off, the Chantilly Chargers and the Westfield Bulldogs will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chantilly is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Chantilly came into this matchup off a tough eight-run loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Oakton by a score of 9-7 last Thursday.
Izzy Dilber put in work no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Dilber was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Rylee John made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Ellie Whiteman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Westfield might've scored the first runs last Thursday, but it was James Madison who claimed the real prize. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Warhawks by a score of 6-4. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Warhawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Westfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carly Austin, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Chantilly's record now sits at 2-6. As for Westfield, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 4-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chantilly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chantilly suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Westfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
