The Mahanoy Area Golden Bears fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 28-21 win over Nativity BVM on Saturday. That's two games straight that Mahanoy Area has won by exactly seven points.
Colm McGroarty was his usual excellent self, rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 12 yards and a touchdown. McGroarty was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards.
Nativity BVM's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was John Borrell, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Ben Kreitzer, who rushed for 17 yards and a touchdown.
Mahanoy Area's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Nativity BVM, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Mahanoy Area will be playing at home against Shenandoah Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shenandoah Valley is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Nativity BVM, they will head out on the road to face off against Minersville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
