The Athens Academy Spartans waltzed into Friday's game with three straight wins but they left with four. Everything went their way against Elbert County as Athens Academy made off with a 68-48 win. Given Athens Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Elbert County is ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kamaurion Givens and Grady Jones certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Givens scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds, while Jones scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds.
Athens Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Elbert County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens Academy will challenge Tallulah Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elbert County, they will head out on the road to face off against Madison County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Madison County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 507 points over their last six games.
