The Freeport Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a tough 52-30 loss at the hands of Massapequa. Freeport lost against Massapequa in their previous head to head back in February of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-43 score last time.
Freeport's loss came despite strong showings from Tristan Harper-Whethers and Jayden Gordon. Harper-Whethers scored five points along with three steals, while Gordon scored two points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Harper-Whethers grabbed two or more steals.
Freeport's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Massapequa, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeport will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Oyster Bay at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday. Massapequa will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hempstead at 12:00 p.m. on January 13, 2024.
