The Goliad Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Mathis Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Goliad has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Goliad scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by George West at home to the tune of 76-34. Goliad has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.
Mathis posted their closest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They skirted past Taft 54-51. The victory was just what Mathis needed coming off of a 100-50 loss in their prior match.
Ashton Quesada continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Arik Cuellar, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Goliad pushed their record up to 23-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Mathis, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Goliad strolled past Mathis in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 41-27. Will Goliad repeat their success, or does Mathis have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
