The Grapevine Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 56-47 to Ryan. While losing is never fun, Grapevine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 665th, while Ryan is ranked 111th).
Loss or not, Grapevine got some senior leadership from Aaron Sowell who scored 17 points and Matthew E Woodcock who scored eight points along with nine rebounds. Sowell scored a full 36.2% of Grapevine's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Lowack, who scored seven points.
Grapevine has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Ryan, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5.
Grapevine will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Estacado at 10:30 a.m. on December 28th. Estacado knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 games -- so hopefully Grapevine likes a good challenge. Ryan's road trip will continue as they head out to face Southlake Carroll at 11:00 a.m. on December 28th.
