The Wakulla Christian School Saints will be playing in front of their home fans against the Aucilla Christian Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wakulla Christian School comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Wakulla Christian School fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Jefferson County on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 73-66 to the Tigers. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Seth Barwick, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jackson Lawhon, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Aucilla Christian earned a 60-51 victory over Cornerstone Academy on Tuesday. Aucilla Christian pushed the score to 49-26 by the end of the third, a deficit Cornerstone Academy cut but never quite recovered from.
Aucilla Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ben Gamalero led the charge by scoring 17 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gamalero has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Bass, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Wakulla Christian School dropped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Aucilla Christian, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wakulla Christian School have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Aucilla Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wakulla Christian School ended up a good deal behind Aucilla Christian in their previous meeting on Thursday, losing 66-51. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bass, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 assists. Now that Wakulla Christian School knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
