The Kennett Blue Demons will square off against the Unionville Longhorns at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Kennett will be strutting in after a win while Unionville will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Kennett turned things around against Octorara Area on Thursday. They blew past the Braves 12-3. The Blue Demons not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 16-1).
Abby Melton was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Melton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kennett let Hailey Kahrs and Daiylia Winter run wild. Kahrs went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double, while Winter went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Kahrs has posted since back in March. Addie Price was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Kennett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Octorara Area only managed seven hits.
Oxford hit Unionville with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Longhorns fell 6-3 to the Hornets.
Peyton Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Unionville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Donnelly, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Another was Grace Levendis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Kennett's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Unionville, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
