Football Recap: Rickards Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Rickards had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Godby Cougars by a score of 41-34 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.

Godby's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamren McMillan, who picked up 126 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 78 yards and one score. Another signal caller making a difference was Landon Dougherty, who threw for 262 yards and a pair of TDs.

Godby's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rickards will face off against Eastside at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Godby, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Pensacola Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on September 5.
