The Poway Titans will take on the St. Augustine Saints in a tournament on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Poway 3.8, St. Augustine 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Poway is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over Torrey Pines on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Titans have beaten the Falcons on their field since April 26, 2022.
Poway got a great performance from Luke Prigmore as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. Prigmore also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Titans are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Poway let Trenton Uyeda and Parker Smith run wild. Uyeda scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Smith went 4-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave Smith a new career-high. Jack Hanson also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Poway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Torrey Pines only managed seven hits.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine beat Vista Grande 6-1 on Tuesday.
Ryan Popkins tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Raphael Dunne, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikey Ruiz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
St. Augustine is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Poway, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Poway skirted past St. Augustine 5-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2018. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
