1A Western Slope recap October 29, 2013
Paonia added to the longest winning streak in 1A Western Slope this week by beating Cedaredge, 40-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Paonia took down the Bruins 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Taylor Walters threw for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 67 yards in the win.
Brent McRae's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Will Austin contributed 92 yards. Josh Altman helped Paonia's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 35 yards.
The Eagles' dynamic duo of Walters and Logan Schopp proved to be unstoppable against Cedaredge, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Altman helped Paonia's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 35 yards.
Caleb Schelle was a key player and the best on defense this week as Hotchkiss topped Meeker. He racked up 2 sacks.
Brandon Milholland's team's Trent Walker and Kyle Ward led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Walker has thrown for 1,153 yards this season, while Ward has 44 catches for 695 yards. Paonia's Walters leads the league in rushing yards with 1,532.
Alex Smith of the the Bulldogs is just 86 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 133 carries Smith has put up 914 yards this year.
The Eagles made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,182 from 6,076. The improvement was largely due to a 40-0 victory over the Bruins last week.
