Softball Recap: Mountainside Finds Home Field Redemption Against Westview

There's no place like home for Mountainside, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Westview Wildcats on Friday as they made off with a 9-1 win. Considering the Mavericks have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Skylar Hins looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Natalie Kawaguchi, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Wilson, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Mountainside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Mountainside is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Westview, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mountainside will take on rival Jesuit at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Westview is set to face off against their familiar foe Aloha at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
