Jordan Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Xeniya Anderson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Walker, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
King/Drew always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .816. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Taft won against Fremont on Wednesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Toreadors blew past Sherman Oaks CES 17-4. The win was nothing new for the Toreadors as they're now sitting on three straight.
Like King/Drew, Taft also got a great game from a two-way player: Chiara Cioffi. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Cioffi was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexandra Chase, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Kimi Meneses was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
King/Drew has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-14 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Taft, their record is now 7-11.
King/Drew's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Golden Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Taft, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will King/Drew continue to outrun the ball?
