The Air Academy Kadets will face off against the Green Mountain Rams at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Air Academy 3.9, Green Mountain 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Air Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Cheyenne Mountain, who was ranked third at the time (Air Academy was ranked fourth). The Kadets fell just short of the Red-Tailed Hawks by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Air Academy saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santiago Graniel, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Green Mountain entered their tilt with Pomona on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Panthers.
Caden Kelly tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hudson Burke, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Simon Lunsford, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Green Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Green Mountain's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Air Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1-1.
Both Air Academy and Green Mountain just can't seem to miss. The Kadets have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Green Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
