The Naples Classical Academy pushed their score all the way to 61 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 77-61 fall against Island Coast. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (55), Naples Classical still had to take the loss.
Naples Classical's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Coldiron, who scored 22 points. Another player making a difference was Colman Gillen, who scored 18 points.
Island Coast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but SirJoshua Anderson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anderson has scored all season. Izaiah Bacchus was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Naples Classical has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Island Coast, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Naples Classical won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mason Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Mason Classical Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Island Coast, they will be playing at home against Ida Baker at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
