The Gretna Dragons have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 64-52 to Creighton Prep on Thursday. If Gretna hoped to take revenge for the 62-61 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
When it comes to explaining why Gretna lost, one person who can't be blamed is Landon Pokorski. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Pokorski continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Wilcoxson, who scored 14 points.
Creighton Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dillon Claussen led the charge by scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. Claussen is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Caleb Djoussa, who scored 16 points.
Gretna has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-4 record this season. As for Creighton Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gretna will face off against Westview at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Westview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Thursday. As for Creighton Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Buena Vista at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Buena Vista comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
