The Overland Trailblazers will face off against the Denver South Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Overland took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hinkley a 20-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trailblazers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Uriel Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Overland got a massive performance out of Luis Chavez, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave Chavez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruben Luna, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one double.
Overland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Denver South entered their tilt with Mountain Range on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Mustangs 13-3. The Ravens might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Dylan Coppock was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Landon Leu, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Denver South pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.5 runs this season. As for Overland, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-5.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Overland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Denver South struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
