Basketball Game Preview: Fort Lauderdale Flying L's vs. Cooper City Cowboys

The Fort Lauderdale Flying L will challenge the Cooper City Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Fort Lauderdale's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.

Last Tuesday, Fort Lauderdale was able to grind out a solid win over Plantation, taking the game 63-55.

Fort Lauderdale relied on the efforts of Antwain Smith, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Antonio Bonami, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 23 points and three steals. Those 22 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rawle Farose, who posted six points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Meanwhile, Cooper City lost to South Plantation at home by a 62-47 margin on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Paladins are ranked 52nd).

Fort Lauderdale pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Cooper City, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Fort Lauderdale was taken down by Cooper City 74-45 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Thankfully for Fort Lauderdale, Sehmaj Mentor (who went 8 of 14 on his way to 28 points along with six assists and five boards) won't be suiting up this time.
