Lake Buena Vista is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Discovery a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Lake Buena Vista Vipers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Discovery Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Lake Buena Vista has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lake Buena Vista's last matchup with Freedom could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. The Vipers came up short against the Patriots, falling 16-4.
Brice Cox was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Ramos, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Discovery had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Haines City 9-3 on Wednesday. The Spartans not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th.
Hunter Benjamin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Benjamin was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Discovery: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-12 otherwise.
In other batting news, Noah Frabotta was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Payton Ellory, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Discovery's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Lake Buena Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lake Buena Vista has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Discovery struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lake Buena Vista might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Discovery in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Vipers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
