The Cedar Valley Aviators lost to the Cottonwood Colts back in January, but the Cedar Valley Aviators didn't allow the Cottonwood Colts the same satisfaction on Tuesday. Cedar Valley snuck past Cottonwood with a 53-49 victory. Given Cedar Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Cottonwood is ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cedar Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hadley Whiting, who scored 7 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Ellie Larson was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 9 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Cottonwood still got an impressive performance from Alivia Hutton, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Carley Caton, who scored 11 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Cedar Valley and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Cottonwood, they have fallen quite a ways from their 17-6 record last season and are now at 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cedar Valley will take on Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cottonwood, they will be playing at home against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Skyline focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday.
