After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bluffton, the Berkeley Stags were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 50-36 victory over Philip Simmons. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Philip Simmons is ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Berkeley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Thomas, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Alaina Carter, who scored 11 points.
Berkeley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Philip Simmons, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Berkeley will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Oglethorpe County at 11:15 a.m. on December 29, 2023. Oglethorpe County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. Philip Simmons will finish 2023 at home by hosting Varsity Opponent at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
