Jackson-Olin is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Woodlawn an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Jackson-Olin Mustangs will be playing at home against the Woodlawn Colonels. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Jackson-Olin and Fairfield had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Jackson-Olin came up short against Fairfield on Saturday, falling 17-2.
Meanwhile, Woodlawn lost 22-12 to Fairfield on Tuesday. Even if the Colonels couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Fernandez Sturdivant was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Roderick Jones was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Eric Rogers was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Jackson-Olin's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Woodlawn, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jackson-Olin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 11.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodlawn struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Jackson-Olin came out on top in a nail-biter against Woodlawn in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Does Jackson-Olin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Woodlawn turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
