Basketball Recap: Lathan Wilborn's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cape Fear Christian Academy over Grace Christian

Cape Fear Christian Academy lost against Grace Christian back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles fell 71-59 to the Grace Christian Crusaders.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lathan Wilborn, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Wilborn a new career-high in assists (three). Kayden Dunkins was another key player, going 8 for 17 on his way to 16 points.

Grace Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nate Jones, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 20 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Jones is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Graham Moose, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Cape Fear Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-3 record this season. As for Grace Christian, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-5.

Cape Fear Christian Academy will be taking part in a tournament against West Johnston at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Johnston is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for Grace Christian, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chatham HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. One thing working in Grace Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
