The Dothan Wolves will challenge the Holmes County Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Dothan fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Andalusia on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Savanna Kendrick put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kendrick was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Kendrick wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jada Newman, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Holmes County entered their tilt with Abbeville Christian Academy on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Generals by a score of 6-2.
Holmes County also got a great performance from Savannah Ludwig as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Ludwig has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacee Bowers, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Holmes County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dothan, their loss dropped their record down to 16-14-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dothan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Holmes County struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Dothan's way against Holmes County in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Dothan made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
