The Union Grove Christian Patriots had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They managed a 47-41 win over Gospel Light Christian. That's another feather in the cap for Union Grove Christian, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Union Grove Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Hanes out in front who scored seven points along with two steals. Hanes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Klaira Cromer, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Gospel Light Christian saw an underclassman step up: Maggie Jo Church dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Church is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last six games she's played. Noelle Nelson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and two steals.
Union Grove Christian's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-14. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Gospel Light Christian, they now have a losing record at 11-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union Grove Christian will take on Woodland Baptist Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Union Grove Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Gospel Light Christian, they will stay at home for another game and welcome New Manna Christian at 5:00 p.m. on February 13th.
