Basketball Recap: Draper APA Skates Past Summit Academy with Ease

Draper APA came tearing into Monday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points) and they left with even more momentum. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 72-20 stomp they got against the Summit Academy Bears. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Draper APA had a senior duo take command as Samantha Kartchner dropped a double-double on 27 points and 19 boards and Aaliyah Baldwin almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kartchner has scored at least a third of Draper APA's points. Another player making a difference was Bailey Bluth, who posted eight points in addition to six assists and four steals.

Draper APA was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit Academy only racked up four assists.

Several Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kita Holmes, who put up 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Orme, who had six points.

Draper APA has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Summit Academy, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Draper APA will head out to square off against Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. As for Summit Academy, they will take on Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th.
