San Pedro is a perfect 10-0 against Narbonne since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gauchos at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Narbonne will be up against a hot San Pedro team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. The Pirates' pitchers stepped up to hand Rancho Dominguez a 26-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Caroline Baker looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, AnnMarie Groves was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Borges, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double.
San Pedro hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Narbonne made easy work of Bernstein on Friday and carried off a 15-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gauchos.
Mariah Villalobos was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Villalobos was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Cheyenne Bennett was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Delilah Celio was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.
San Pedro pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Narbonne, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. San Pedro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Narbonne struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Pedro took their win against Narbonne when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 20-1 score. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Gauchos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
