The Great Mills Hornets came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by La Plata on the road to the tune of 55-24. Considering Great Mills has won three matches by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for DeAndre Dorsey, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten steals. Those ten steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Vontez Culpepper, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why La Plata lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cameron Harrold. Despite the final result, he scored three points. Harrold hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games.
Great Mills pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for La Plata, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Great Mills will take on Laurel at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Laurel is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for La Plata, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th. Hopefully Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
