The Lathrop Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 64-40 walloping at the hands of Mountain House. While losing is never fun, Lathrop can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1002nd, while Mountain House is ranked 183rd).
Lathrop's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reniel Crisostomo, who scored nine points. January Murillo was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Among those leading the charge was Jordan Assefa, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Coldin Parker, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Lathrop has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Mountain House, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Lathrop will be playing at home against Los Banos at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Mountain House will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Ceres at 7:15 p.m. on January 19th. Ceres knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Mountain House likes a good challenge.
