Springfield opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-43 defeat to St. Amant. Springfield has struggled against St. Amant recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Springfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blayre Wheat, who scored 15 points. Emersyn Neal was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 15 rebounds and seven steals.
Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for St. Amant, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Springfield will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Holden at 12:30 p.m. St. Amant won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Doyle at 3:00 p.m. on January 5th. Doyle will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
