Softball Recap: Apollo Ridge's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

After a string of eight wins, Apollo Ridge's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 6-2 to the South Allegheny Gladiators. The Vikings were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the seven games prior), but the Gladiators' pitchers proved too tough.

Mikaila Ditty put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Ditty wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jocelyn Snyder, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Apollo Ridge's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for South Allegheny, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apollo Ridge will square off against Springdale at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings are facing the Dynamos at the right time seeing as the Dynamos are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for South Allegheny, they will challenge Brentwood at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gladiators will also cruise into their next match with the timing on their side: the Spartans will have lost four straight heading into Tuesday's contest.
