Shenandoah Valley is 7-2 against MMI Preparatory School since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Blue Devils will take on MMI Preparatory School at 4:15 p.m.
Marian Catholic hit Shenandoah Valley with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marian Catholic. The loss continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with Marian Catholic: they've now lost eight in a row.
Chase McCole was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jostin Lajara, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask MMI Preparatory School). They blew past Tunkhannock 22-9 on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
MMI Preparatory School let Gavin Serock and Ben Gombeda run wild. Serock went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs and two RBI, while Gombeda got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Gombeda is becoming a predictor of MMI Preparatory School's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Jared Santana also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
MMI Preparatory School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.
MMI Preparatory School has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Shenandoah Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Shenandoah Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like MMI Preparatory School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Shenandoah Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against MMI Preparatory School in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
