The Scotus Shamrocks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to Grand Island Central Catholic at home by a decisive 49-35 margin. While losing is never fun, Scotus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Grand Island Central Catholic is ranked seventh).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grand Island Central Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryndal Moody, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The game was Moody's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carolyn Maser, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Scotus has fallen quite a ways from their 19-6 record last season and are now at 0-3. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scotus won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Francis at 5:30 p.m. on December 9th. St. Francis' defense has only allowed 26.5 points per game this season, so Scotus' offense will have their work cut out for Scotus. Grand Island Central Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Duchesne at 4:30 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Duchesne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
