Softball Recap: South Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mira Monte

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South). They blew past the Mira Monte Lions 26-4 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Zowey Estrada, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. London Terrance also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive matchups.

South is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mira Monte, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

South will host North at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mira Monte, they are taking a road trip to take on Del Oro at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Suns have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.38 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
