The Conestoga Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 69-24 win over Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer. The result was nothing new for Conestoga, who have now won three games by 27 points or more so far this season.
Leading Conestoga to victory were Zachariah Smith and Owen Trofholz. Smith scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, while Trofholz scored 25 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The match was Smith's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Merwald, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer's loss came despite strong showings from Brogan Dunlap and Hunter Bohling. Dunlap scored 14 points along with three steals, while Bohling scored eight points along with five rebounds. Dunlap scored a full 58.3% of Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Conestoga racked up 19 assists.
Conestoga pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Conestoga will be playing at home against Nebraska City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nebraska City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Conestoga is ranked 35th). As for Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, they will square off against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
