2A Region 1 recap September 24, 2013
Logan Pettigo of Mantachie ran for the longest rushing play in 2A Region 1 this season against Alcorn Central last week. Pettigo's team beat the Bears as he sprinted for 67 yards on the play and finished with 82 in all.
East Union added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Strayhorn, 20-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Baldwyn's dynamic duo of Corbin Scott and Martel Brown proved to be unstoppable against Saltillo, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Scott threw for 100 yards and Brown had 64 yards receiving. Clayton Gray helped Baldwyn's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.

Alston Dill was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 138 yards on 24 carries as Mantachie fell to Saltillo.
Scott put up the best numbers through the air as Michael Gray's team fell to Pat Byrd's team.
Matthew Gates was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Bearcats lost to the Tigers. The 5-foot-8 junior.
Brown was the best wideout in 2A Region 1 this week as Baldwyn fell to Saltillo.
Dill was a passing and rushing force as Lynn Moore's team beat Alcorn Central.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Mustangs' Dustin Carrell and Nick Burns have proven to be a lethal combination. Carrell has thrown for 805 yards this season, while Burns has 17 catches for 338 yards. New Site's J.T. Herring leads the league in rushing yards with 392.
Walnut moved up to 198 from 229 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of topping South Pontotoc 22-14.
