The Terra Nova Tigers will face off against the Mills Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Terra Nova has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Mills will arrive with nine straight victories.
It was a proper cat-fight when Terra Nova faced off against Half Moon Bay on Friday. The Tigers took a 20-15 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. Surprisingly, this marked the Tigers' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Terra Nova got a massive performance out of Kylie Gangi, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Lobo, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.
Meanwhile, Mills made easy work of Menlo-Atherton on Friday and carried off a 14-3 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by seven runs or more this season.
Mills also got a great performance from Hailey Pedroza as she tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Pedroza has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jazzy Maske, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Jolie Wong was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Mills' victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Terra Nova, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Terra Nova hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Mills struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Terra Nova suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Mills in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
